UNICEF. The United Nations Children’s Fund is the official children’s program sponsored by the United Nations. You can donate monthly or make a one-time donation, and you can choose where in the world your money will go and which program it will benefit. You can, for example, donate money to help starving African children receive better nutrition.
Working in the U.S. to Help the World’s Children
The U.S. Fund for UNICEF supports UNICEF’s work, and other efforts in support of the world’s children, through fundraising, advocacy and education in the United States.
We work with governments, civic leaders, celebrities, corporations, campus groups, churches, teachers and people just like you; anyone willing to help us advocate for the survival and well-being of every child.

Feeding America. This charity is located throughout the United States and distributes more than 2 billion pounds of food every year. Approximately 9 million children are helped by Feeding America each year. You can donate through Feeding America’s website or you can donate food directly to one of the organizations many food pantries in throughout the country.
About Feeding America: Our mission is to feed America’s hungry through a nationwide network of member food banks and engage our country in the fight to end hunger.
This organization operates in 45 countries worldwide. It seeks long-term solutions to hunger in communities and helps to treat children suffering from malnutrition
Why Our Work Matters
Deadly malnutrition claims the lives of 1 million children each year, even though it’s:
- PREDICTABLE: We know where and when to expect acute malnutrition
- PREVENTABLE: We know how to help children stay healthy
- TREATABLE: Therapeutic ready-to-use foods can help save millions
- AFFORDABLE: Just $45 can provide a child with lifesaving treatment
We know how to save starving children if we can reach them.
Where Your Money Goes
We dedicate as much of our funding as possible to our lifesaving humanitarian programs.
In 2014, we spent $0.93 of every donated dollar on program activities.
This charity provides livestock to families in more than 125 countries around the world. In training the families how to care for the livestock, Heifer International aims to strike out hunger by reducing poverty.
Heifer International’s mission is to work with communities to end world hunger and poverty and to care for the Earth.
Dan West was a farmer from the American Midwest and member of the Church of the Brethren who went to the front lines of the Spanish Civil War as an aid worker. His mission was to provide relief, but he soon discovered the meager single cup of milk rationed to the weary refugees once a day was not enough.
And then he had a thought: What if they had not a cup, but a cow?
That “teach a man to fish” philosophy is what drove West to found Heifer International. And now, nearly 70 years later, that philosophy still inspires our work to end world hunger and poverty throughout the world once and for all.
